A wave of grief swept through Obogu in the Asante Akim South Municipality as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional leadership extended their condolences to the Saviour Church following the tragic death of 16 members in a road crash.
The victims, mostly teenagers and young adults, were returning from a church conference when the accident occurred, plunging the community into mourning.
Leading the high-powered delegation, Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, was accompanied by the Member of Parliament for Asante Akim South, Kwaku Asante Boateng, former Municipal Chief Executive Alexander Yaw Frimpong, regional executives, and other party members.
The NPP team comforted bereaved families, prayed with the church, and made significant donations to support the grieving community.
They presented 100 bags of cement and GH₵2,000 to help with tiling the church floor in honour of the victims’ faith. An additional GH₵20,000 was given directly to the families to assist with funeral and burial costs.
Describing the incident as “a loss not only to Obogu but to the entire Ashanti Region and the nation as a whole,” Chairman Wontumi urged residents to remain steadfast in their faith. He also assured them of the party’s continued support.
The Saviour Church leadership expressed heartfelt gratitude to the MP for raising the issue in Parliament and acknowledged the NPP delegation’s compassion during their most difficult time.
