NPRA Regional Manager addressing SDA members on the Tier Three Pension Scheme

Churches across Ghana have been encouraged to embrace the Tier Three Pension Scheme as a way to secure the financial future of their members.

Dr Williams Ohene-Adjei, the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo Regional Manager of the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA), made the call during the 2025 Joint Camp Meeting of the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) Mid-West Ghana Conference in Sunyani.

Addressing the gathering on the theme “Called to be Faithful: Commandment of God and Faith of Jesus”, Dr Ohene-Adjei noted that anyone in the informal sector could register, contribute, and benefit from the scheme.

He urged churches to set aside a portion of members’ dues to invest in the pension plan, stressing that it would safeguard their financial well-being.

More than 1,500 congregants from Sunyani East, Wamanafo, and Amasu Districts attended the event. Dr Ohene-Adjei highlighted that beyond spiritual growth, churches had a role in the physical development of their members.

He commended churches for forming cooperative societies but advised that all groups, from youth and women’s fellowships to choirs, also encourage members to commit to the Tier Three Pension Scheme.

He explained, “By doing so, every member of the church will be financially secured and thereby lessen members’ overreliance on the churches for financial aid in challenging moments.”

He further praised the government’s Cocoa Pension Scheme and suggested that churches could replicate such initiatives for their congregants.

Pastor Thomas Akosah Agyapong, Director of Stewardship and Strategic Planning of the MWGC and Sunyani East District Pastor of the SDA, commended the NPRA for its educational efforts and urged members to join the scheme for their own benefit.
