AdubianewsThe National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has intensified its efforts to make Ghana’s roads safer by ordering the immediate removal of unauthorized billboards and signage mounted in road medians. This move comes as part of a larger initiative aimed at eliminating distractions for drivers and improving visibility for all road users.
In a statement released on Monday, July 22, the NRSA highlighted the dangers posed by these roadside ads. “These signs create visual and cognitive distractions for motorists and obstruct the view of both drivers and pedestrians,” the Authority warned.
The enforcement action, which was successfully piloted in Ayawaso West Municipality, is set to roll out across key corridors in the Greater Accra Region starting in August. According to the NRSA, the exercise will be carried out in collaboration with various Municipal Assemblies.

The NRSA has issued a final directive to advertising companies and corporate bodies:
“All advertising companies, their clients, and owners of signs situated in the medians of the stretches mentioned earlier are hereby directed to voluntarily remove them with immediate effect,” the statement read.
Failure to comply will result in forceful removal by the Authority, with the full cost of the operation charged to the offending parties.
The NRSA urged the public and stakeholders to support the nationwide exercise. “This is a critical part of our commitment to engineering safer roads for all users. We count on your full cooperation.”
