The wife of John Odartey Lamptey, the man captured in a viral video assaulting her at Ofankor in the Greater Accra Region, has given a horrifying account of the attack, alleging that he assaulted and violated her after she refused to have sex with him for nearly five months.

According to the victim, their marriage had already collapsed due to repeated physical abuse, forcing her to move out of their home five months earlier. She said Lamptey lured her back on Saturday by falsely claiming that their two-year-old child was gravely ill.

“I was at a funeral when he called to say our lastborn was not feeling well. I rushed home, only to find the children playing,” she recounted. When she confronted him, she said he admitted to lying because he wanted to have sex with her. She told him she would return to her village the next morning, a response she said enraged him.

“He accused me of disrespecting him and claimed I had been avoiding him. Then he told me he had trapped me to kill me,” she narrated.

The victim said Lamptey instructed a child, Daniel, to take the other children outside. Once they stepped out, he locked the door and launched a brutal attack.

“He tore my dress and undershorts, saying he bought them. He even tore the beads on my waist, leaving me naked. He beat me with the metal rod from a standing broom and stepped on me. At one point, he picked up a knife and threatened to cut off my hand,” she said.

She recalled screaming for help until a man known as Oketeku intervened and managed to grab the knife from Lamptey. But the relief was short-lived.

Lamptey allegedly forced the man out and resumed the assault, smearing pepper between her thighs and private parts before forcibly having sex with her.

The survivor said this was not the first time she had endured violence, revealing that she had reported him several times to both the Tesano and Ofankor Police Stations, submitting evidence, but no action was taken. The couple shares two children, aged five and two.
