Okraku Mantey Clarifies Creative Arts Minister’s Role After Amphitheatre Debate

Creative Arts advocate and former deputy minister Mark Okraku Mantey has responded to criticisms from Bella Mundi and some Media General personalities who claimed no amphitheatres were constructed under his tenure.

In an interview with Fiifi Pratt on Aluta FM, he explained that the ministry indeed initiated and completed amphitheatre projects, countering what he described as an agenda to downplay the effort.

Okraku Mantey clarified that many critics misunderstand the core mandate of a creative arts minister, often assuming the role involves organising concerts and events.

He stressed that a minister’s responsibility is to design, implement, and supervise policies that strengthen the creative sector, not to directly run shows or entertainment programmes.

He further emphasised that event organisation falls under agencies, private sector players, and industry institutions, not the ministry itself.
