Volta Regional Minister James Gunu pays tribute to late Defence Minister Dr Omane Boamah for his role in NDC’s 2024 election victory.

Volta Regional Minister James Gunu has paid an emotional tribute to the late Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, describing him as a brilliant strategist whose intellect and problem-solving skills were crucial to the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) 2024 election victory.

Speaking to JoyNews at the funeral of Dr Boamah and six others who perished in last week’s military helicopter crash, Mr Gunu praised the late Minister’s extraordinary approach to the elections.

Omane Boamah’s Impact on the 2024 Election

He is one person who brought his experience and expertise as a medical doctor practitioner to bear on our electoral architecture, and he was able to demystify the rumours that the NDC was not able to collate its election in 2020,” Mr Gunu said.

So when it came to the 2024 election, it was like a medical officer took the whole election system to a laboratory to diagnose and found a solution and made recommendations on what to do, especially with regard to ballot accounting and other things that will help us win the election, and in fact he did very well,” he added.

The Volta Regional Minister stressed that Dr Omane Boamah’s rare ability to combine medical precision with political strategy reflected both his professional brilliance and patriotic commitment.

A National Loss Beyond One Man

Mr Gunu emphasised that Dr Boamah’s contributions should not be forgotten, noting that his work left a lasting legacy for the NDC and the nation.

He also mourned the six other victims of the crash, describing their passing as the loss of national assets whose dedication and service had greatly benefited Ghana.

Dr Edward Omane Boamah is remembered not only as a medical doctor and public servant but also as a political strategist whose efforts significantly shaped the NDC’s success in the 2024 elections. His passing, alongside six others, marks a profound loss for the country.
