AdubianewsGhana’s Parliament on Monday, July 28, 2025, joined the nation in mourning the late highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, affectionately known as Daddy Lumba, who died over the weekend at the Bank Hospital in Accra after a short illness.
Delivering an emotional tribute on the floor of the House, Manhyia North MP, Akwasi Konadu, celebrated Daddy Lumba as “one of Ghana’s greatest musical legends, a true maestro and an icon whose influence transcended generations and national borders.”
Konadu praised the legendary musician’s enduring impact on Ghana’s music landscape, describing his body of work as a beacon of creative brilliance. He emphasized that Lumba’s songs weren’t just melodies, but powerful narratives filled with social consciousness and lyrical richness. “His works were not just songs,” the MP said. “They were experiences, carefully crafted pieces that touched hearts and stirred consciences.”
Also contributing to the tribute was Nsuta-Kwamang-Beposo MP, Adelaide Ntim, who urged the government to honour the late icon with national awards and a state-assisted burial. She advocated for long-term efforts to preserve his artistic legacy, suggesting cultural initiatives to ensure future generations remember his music and contributions. “Let us remember Charles Kwadwo Fosu not just with tears, but with pride, for the gift he was to our nation,” she added.
With a career spanning over three decades, Daddy Lumba remains a symbol of musical excellence in Ghana, celebrated for his lyrical depth, cultural relevance, and genre-defining artistry. His legacy, lawmakers agreed, must be enshrined as a national treasure.
This parliamentary tribute reflects a growing call from the public and stakeholders in the creative industry to immortalize the musician’s work through institutional support and formal recognition.
