Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee, Rev. Ntim Fordjour, has strongly criticised the government’s decision to purchase a luxury helicopter intended for presidential and ministerial travel.
According to the Assin South MP, prioritising a high-end aircraft for VIP movement at a time when the Ghana Armed Forces lack modern fighter jets is a misplaced priority.
He argued that the military’s core mandate is national defence, and equipping soldiers with the necessary combat aircraft is more critical than enhancing comfort for government officials.
Rev. Fordjour questioned how the armed forces are expected to operate as an effective fighting unit when they continue to depend on outdated or insufficient air assets.
He emphasised that strengthening the military’s capabilities should come before luxury spending, especially during a period of economic pressure and limited resources.

“Instead of buying military fighter jets, you are going to buy a luxury helicopter to fly your President and ministers around. What fighter jets are the soldiers going to use as a fighting force?”
