The Savannah Regional Police Command of the Ghana Police Service has confirmed rescuing the two Fulanis who were allegedly kidnapped by some unknown persons at Daboya in the North Gonja District.
The alleged kidnappers demanded a ransom of an amount of GH¢170,000, which upon negotiation was reduced to GH¢130,000 before the victims – Alhaji Nyandiya and Marchu – would be released.
The Savannah Regional Police Public Relation Officer (PRO), Superintendent Adjekum Owusu, who confirmed the arrest, indicated the rescue mission was a collaboration between the police in the region and the National Intelligence Bureau at the police headquarters.
According to him, the victims are currently at their homes and assisting police in investigations.
He, however, disclosed that the suspects fled the scene to a near-by bush when they realized the police were around.
He appealed to residents around the Daboya community to volunteer information to the police to assist them to arrest the perpetrators.
Supt. Owusu cautioned residents especially the Fulani cattle owners not to walk alone in the bushes when they send their cattle outside for grazing.
This is the fourth time within two months a kidnapping incident is being recorded in the region.
