AdubianewsThe Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has assured the Overlord of Gonja, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, that the government will take decisive steps to restore peace in the Sawla-Bole area following recent violent clashes.
Speaking to the media after a closed-door meeting at the Jakpa Palace in Damongo on Sunday, August 31, 2025, Mr. Mohammed-Mubarak expressed the government’s concern over the tragic loss of lives and destruction of property caused by the unrest.
“We want to appeal to all factions to understand that nothing can compare to peace. Once we agree to sit down and start talking, these tensions will be a thing of the past,” he said.
The Interior Minister revealed that multiple security agencies, including the police and military, have been deployed to patrol communities in the Sawla-Bole enclave. He explained that their presence was aimed at preventing further violence while ensuring residents felt safe.
Beyond local measures, Mr. Mohammed-Mubarak disclosed that the government is engaging neighbouring Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire to strengthen border security and prevent cross-border interference, which often fuels tensions in the area.
The Minister stressed that sustainable peace can only be achieved through collaboration between traditional leaders, community stakeholders, and security agencies. He urged all factions to commit to dialogue, emphasizing that lasting stability would pave the way for development in the region.
