Sex tourism is a planned travel to a different country for the sake of sexual activity, particularly with prostitutes.
He noted that foreigners troop into the coastal communities in Accra, Takoradi and Cape Coast under the pretense of vacation only to engage in sex tourism.
The former MP Theophilus Tetteh Chaie, who made this revelation in an interview with host of Atinka FM’s AM Drive, Kaakyire Ofori Ayim, explained that these sexual exploitation which has been left unattended to over the years paved way for the invasion of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexuality, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ+) into the country.
According to Theophilus Tetteh Chaie, we see these foreigners at our beaches and more often than not we assume they are there for sightseeing.
He argued that the Westerners have been exploiting Africans on sex and that it is high time African leaders acted.
“ Most of the Westerners who come to Ghana for holidays come to experiment with sex with our Ghanaian youth. These amorous relationships start with the exchange of gifts and when the relationship gain grounds, they come by way of vacation and just come and have fun with our men and women. This is very prevalent in the coastal communities in Ghana,” he added.
