The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has settled all outstanding per diem payments owed to the Black Princesses, bringing relief to the national U-20 women’s team ahead of their next World Cup qualifying assignment.
The unpaid allowances related to the team’s recent 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Tunisia, during which the players and technical staff had remained in camp for a two-legged encounter without receiving their entitlements. The issue dated back to last year when Charles Sampson’s side prepared for and played the North African opponents.
Despite the delay in payments, the Black Princesses delivered on the pitch, recording an emphatic 4-1 aggregate victory over Tunisia to progress to the next phase of the qualifiers.
With preparations underway for the third-round showdown against South Africa, scheduled for next month, the Ministry has now moved to clear the arrears. The upcoming fixture is expected to take place in about three weeks, making the timing of the payment particularly significant.
The settlement is seen as a morale boost for the Princesses as they intensify preparations for the crucial encounter against South Africa, with qualification for another FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup firmly in sight.
