A deeply emotional moment unfolded at the August 15 State Burial for the eight Ghanaians who lost their lives in the August 6 military helicopter crash when the wife of Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala paid a heartfelt tribute to her late husband.
The message, read on her behalf by a family member, described Squadron Leader Anala as a man of “excellence, humility, deep faith, and love.” She portrayed him as a remarkable soul—brilliant, kind, and devoted to God—whose simplicity and integrity touched everyone who knew him.
Although his demanding military career often kept them apart, she said their connection endured through prayers and constant communication. Earlier this year, Anala travelled to the United Kingdom to stand by her side as they welcomed their first child, a “precious blessing” whose christening was planned for October.

In her tribute, she revealed that before returning to Ghana, her husband shared a troubling dream with his mother. The family prayed fervently for his safety, yet on the morning of August 6, an unusual restlessness kept them in prayer. Messages of love sent to him went unanswered until the tragic news confirmed their fears.
“Though our hearts are broken beyond words, we surrender to God’s will, trusting that He knows best,” she said, adding that treasured memories of their love would remain a source of comfort. She prayed for God’s guidance over their newborn child and strength for all affected families.

Her message concluded with powerful words: “Peter, our hero, our light. You fought a good fight. You finished your race. You kept the faith. Until we meet again in God’s glory.”
