Stonebwoy speaking against toxic rivalries in Ghana’s music industry

Dancehall star Stonebwoy has expressed deep concern over the rising wave of toxic music rivalries in Ghana’s entertainment industry, warning that the trend is hurting progress rather than driving creativity.

According to him, while competition has always existed in the industry, recent feuds have taken a disturbing turn. He cited instances where rival artists deliberately release songs on the same day as another’s EP launch, describing such acts as “slavery and non-directional.”

“Not much has changed in the rivalry space; it’s only gotten worse and toxic. Look at how, whenever you decide to drop your EP, they release their track on the same day, even though there are a million dates. That shows you’re a slave and non-directional,” Stonebwoy said.

The BET award-winning artist noted that although past generations had their share of rivalries, they never escalated to such toxic levels where fans and the public openly celebrate the negativity.

He stressed that the constant feuding drains valuable energy that could instead be channelled into projects to strengthen the industry, build unity, and expand Ghana’s influence on the global stage.

“The energy used in channeling such toxicity could be used to champion something more productive for the betterment of the music industry,” he added.
