Diella TekuReggae and Dancehall sensation, Stonebwoy has raised his voice in the ongoing battle against illegal mining, known locally as “galamsey,” which continues to devastate Ghana’s water bodies and environment. As nationwide protests against the practice heat up, Stonebwoy has emerged as a vocal advocate, calling for immediate government intervention.
In a powerful post on X (formerly Twitter) monitored by adwoaadubianews, the award-winning artist expressed solidarity with protesters who are demanding an end to galamsey, emphasizing that their efforts and sacrifices must not be in vain. His message came amid a three-day protest that has seen many Ghanaians take to the streets, frustrated by what they see as the government’s inaction on the issue.
“As we touch the streets to advocate for the better… walking in the spirit footsteps of the great ancestors that led us to freedom once upon a time, may our blood, sweat, and tears not remain in vain,” Stonebwoy wrote. He urged both current and future governments to implement a comprehensive plan to combat galamsey and demonstrate a firm commitment to tackling the problem.
Stonebwoy’s post went beyond galamsey, also calling attention to other pressing national issues, including the deplorable state of the Korle-Bu mortuary. He urged leadership to address such concerns with urgency, stressing the need for transparent and actionable strategies.
A long-time advocate for environmental preservation, Stonebwoy’s involvement adds momentum to the growing public outcry against galamsey. His words resonate deeply with a generation eager for change, proving that the fight to protect Ghana’s natural resources now has the backing of one of its most influential voices.
