Three Ghanaian students have been decorated with the WAEC International Excellence Award for their outstanding performance in the 2020 West Africa Senior Schools Certificate Examinations (WASSCE).
The three are Master Cecil Tetteh Kumah, Master Godfred Aseda Obeng and Miss Afua Manukure Ansah who came 1st, 2nd and 3rd in that order.
They were selected from a total of 2,122,844 candidates who sat the examinations in the five member countries of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
They were honoured at the start of the virtual 69th Annual Meeting of the Governing Board of the Council held from Monday, March 22 to Friday, March 26.
Master Cecil Tetteh Kumah also received the Augustus Bandele Oyediran Award for the Best Candidate in West Africa.
Another eminent Ghanaian citizen, Dr John Anum Sackey, who has been a Chief Examiner for WAEC for a long time now, also received the prestigious Distinguished Friend of the Council Award “for his outstanding contribution to the success of the work of WAEC”.
A release issued by WAEC noted that Ghanaian Professor Ato Essuman has been elected the Chairman of WAEC’s Governing Board for a three-year tenure.
He will succeed Gambian Baboucarr Bouy.
