Two students of Nalerigu Senior High School have been fatally shot following a violent invasion by unknown gunmen on Saturday night, July 26. The victims, known by their first names Lukman and Gideon, were reportedly inside their dormitory when the attackers breached the school compound and opened fire, killing them on the spot.

The tragic event has plunged the entire school and the residents of the North East Region into mourning and fear.

According to sources who spoke with Myjoyonline, the incident may be tied to the long-standing and controversial Bawku conflict, which has seen rising tensions in recent months.

Assembly Member for the Denugu Electoral Area, Dasmani Fuseini, who is also an uncle to one of the deceased, confirmed the shooting. He stated that the bodies are still in police custody, and arrangements are being made by the families for their burial.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has launched a full investigation into the attack. The tragedy has sparked growing demands for increased security presence in schools situated in areas prone to violent conflicts.
