The Upper East Regional Police Command of the Ghana Police Service has arrested five notorious armed robbers, putting them all before court.
Two have been slapped with jail terms while three are on remand in police custody.
A press release issued by the Command on Monday, June 7 said a farmer, in Bawku, by name Awinaba Ayembil Joel, 30, was on the police wanted list following a robbery incident at Zebilla.
He was arrested at Wassa Akropong where he is said to have gone into hiding after the suspected robbery.
He was subsequently put before the Bawku Circuit Court on Friday, June 4 for the offence of conspiracy and robbery and sentenced to 25 years in jail with hard labour.
In Bolgatanga, 20-year-old Mathias Asagba was arraigned before a circuit court and sentenced to 15 years in jail with hard labour.
Meanwhile, the three on remand were involved in a highway robbery on Sunday, May 16 at about 9:15am.
The incident was reported to the Sandema Police.
Salifu Gola, Amadou Sambo and Adam Yaro were arrested at different locations and arraigned before court. They are to reappear on Monday, June 28.
Another suspect, Iddrisu Mahadu, is on the run and has been declared wanted by the police.
