Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has taken pride in what he describes as a “phenomenal” record of the Akufo-Addo-led Administration even before the expiration of their first term in office.

According to him, the landmark achievements in all areas of the economy by the current government which has seen a significant progress in the country’s development agenda.

The Vice President considers the government’s acclaimed feat as unmatched in the history of the country under the Fourth Republic.

This record, he said, has endeared the Ghanaian government as well as the nation to many countries and personalities who keep touting Ghana’s accomplishments globally.

Speaking in an interview on Monday, the Vice President indicated, for instance, that his government has by all accounts managed the Cedi better than the past administration, while celebrating their gains in other areas such as unemployment, inflation rate, social interventions among others.

“We did arrest the runaway depreciation in the cedi and therefore if you look at the record in terms of the depreciation of the Cedi in the last four-five years or eight years, you will see that since the NPP came into power, the rate of the cedi depreciation is 50% less than what it was before and that is what the data shows.

“So yes we have arrested the depreciation of the cedi, we have brought down inflation, we have brought down interest rate, we have brought down deficit, we have increased growth, we have reduced unemployment, we have reduced the suffering of the people in the context of paying for electricity, we have reduced the price of electricity; the only government that has been able to do so in recent times. We have reduced the price of water, we have created many jobs in the sector,” Dr Bawumia said.

The Vice President iterated that they are ever ready to fight the December 2020 elections on the “splendid” record of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over the last three and a half years.

“So in terms of our management of the economy, we are very, very happy and we are very, very willing to fight on the record of what we have achieved across the board.

“It is a great record actually when you look at the history of our Fourth Republic. When I actually look at it, I am amazed sometimes how much we have been able to accomplish in just three and a half years; it is a phenomenal record and I’m very proud of the President and his leadership that has brought this amazing record,” he stated.

Dr Bawumia stressed that “it is a record that is being touted the world over by the way, not just us. We can make the case whenever we have to make the case. This election is going to be about the economy, it is going to be about corruption, it is going to be about competence and we will fight it very, very clearly because the record for us is a solid one.”
