Yesterday news broke out in the afternoon 2 journalists of Citi FM had been arrested by the National Security. The news went viral because earlier it had been reported that he was picked up for filming the police on Sunday as they patrolled the Black Star Square. Bernard Avle, an award winning journalist with Citi FM shared on ‘Good Evening Ghana’ what really transpired.
According to Bernard, he was eating with Sam Mensah when they saw Zoe running towards them. Zoe said that the National Security men wanted to arrest her.
Mr. Avle explained that the men from the National Security numbering 7 came in a rush and packed their cars anyhow. He noted that Caleb Kudah was in one of the pick-ups in handcuffs. According to the police they had come for Zoe because she had in her possession some vides filmed by Caleb when he visited the National Security office.
Bernard continued that he and some others followed the security men to the National Security office where the head there complained about the videos Caleb took. He was clear that no one at Citi FM sent Caleb. It was revealed that Caleb filmed and sent the videos of some abandoned vehicles in a shed at the National Security offices.
According to Bernard, they complained to the head that they could have called Citi FM to bring Zoe to their station or even called the owner of Citi FM but to come in Rambo style to their premises was uncalled for. Later Zoe’s phone was taken and some videos erased.
“It was a bit scary. What happened at Citi was traumatic for the people there. I am laughing but it was serious. If they are coming for just one person with 3 pick-ups, guns and 7 men then it is serious. It was unwarranted. Caleb was traumatized and so was told to go home and rest after he was released after 7pm.
Caleb looked disoriented. He had no physical marks but he looked shocked because he was put in cuffs. Indeed, he filmed and wrong is wrong but the way the police acted was inappropriate. Who were they trying to impress? What signal were they sending? Who are you trying to please and why are you doing it this way “Bernard said.
According to him people are already embittered about happenings in the country and so this style of arrest was unwarranted. He called on the police to do the right thing because this was unprofessional
