Youth of Antwikrom calls on MP for Sunyani East to redeem his promises

The Youth of Antwikrom in the Sunyani East Constituency on Monday, 25th May, 2020, was taken aback by the politically influenced actions of the Member of Parliament for Sunyani East which is to us, a disturbing act that can simply be described as a move to erode the development of the community for a mere political gains on the side of the incumbent MP, Hon Kwesi Ameyaw Cheremeh.
It is disheartening to note that a borehole that was constructed at the premises of the Community Health Centre at Antwikrom which used to serve as the main source of water to both the health workers and the health facility after recently developing a minor fault has been abandoned by the MP who decided to embark on a new project of same not just to score a cheap political points but a deliberate attempt to render the old one useless as well as denying the people of Kyiribogya same access to potable water.
How can the MP, if not a mere political mediocrity, makes a loud noise for abandoning an old borehole at the same health centre, deny the community of Kyiribogya of potable water and takes credit on radio stations for constructing a borehole which is yet to be fully activated?
In 2016, the then Municipal Chief Executive of the Sunyani Municipal, Hon Kwasi Oppong Ababio embarked on a similar exercise where he constructed boreholes at Antwikrom, Twenedua and Kyiribogya but was able to fully activate that at Antwikrom and Twenedua.
It must be noted that the one at Kyiribogya after its construction is yet to be provided with the metal frame for its activation to serve the community with potable water.
Despite the consistent attempt by the Youth to appeal to the MP for him to provide the needed metal frame for the community to get access to this basic amenity has been ignored by the MP without any reason, a situation that is dire to the community especially at this crucial moment where the entire community of Kyiribogya has to either resort to sharing a river water with animals or has to travel at a long distance to Twenedua to access water.
The Youth is of the view that if the MP had the community at heart without any other motive, he, the MP would have repaired the old one at the Health Centre and used the remaining balance to provide the needed metal frame to activate the abandoned borehole at Kyiribogya.
ELECTRICITY AND STREET LIGHTS
It must be stated on record that Antwikrom and Twenedua were provided with electricity by the then MCE, Hon Kwasi Oppong Ababio while adjoining communities like Benu-Nkwanta, Kyiribogya and Wawasua were provided with light poles and awarded on contract in 2016.
After the 2016 General Election, Hon Kwesi Ameyaw Cheremeh promised to see to it that this rural electrification continued at these communities and even assured us of providing additional street light bulbs with his Common Fund at Antwikrom and Twenedua for proper visibility at night.
Almost four (4) years on, not a single street light bulb has neither been provided at Antwikrom nor Twenedua as promised by our MP.
The Youth are therefore disappointed by the actions of the MP to deliberately deny these communities of the basic social amenities and ultimately ride on lack of these amenities for political gains at every election year.
ABANDONED ROAD
The Youth are totally amused by the MP’s perpetual refusal to make any effort to get the road from Twenedua to Yaw Sae upgraded contrary to his own promises made.
Our MP made us know that he has been able to secure funding to embark on selected road projects including the Sunyani Town Roads and the Twenedua – Yaw Sae Road.
In late last year, the community was assured that works on the Twenedua – Yaw Sae Road was to be completed in six (6) calendar months.
In fact, construction works of the gutters began in November 2019.
Strangely, the contractor of this road project left the site prior to the Christmas holidays and has since not reported to work.
The contractor while on site, blocked sections of the road where he kept construction materials such as sand, gravels etc worsening the already bad road.
This action has resulted in series of minor accidents on this road and the complaints by the road users, particularly the taxi drivers have not yielded any positive outcome.
As a Member of Parliament who represents the constituency and has an oversight responsibility as a development agent, the Youth cannot understand the reason for the constant refusal of the MP to visit the site for first hand information and take it up for the necessary actions to be taken by the appropriate quarters to get the contractor back to site to relieve the community of this glaring headache.
As the Youth Group of these communities, we demand accountability and answers from our MP on what he has been using his portion of the Common Fund for and his reason to deny these communities of the share of the Common Fund. Perhaps, these communities do not fall within the Sunyani East Constituency and hence the need to demand answers from the MP.
The Youth therefore urges the Honourable Member of Parliament for Sunyani East to take up the development of these communities and not renege on his promises by engaging on politics of mediocrity.
