CJ Inquest: This Is A Serious Breach Of Ghana’s Constitution – Richard Ahiagbah Blasts Mahama

National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party, Richard Ahiagbah has slammed the Mahama administration over their treatment of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

The suspended Chief Justice has claimed her innocence in a hearing regarding some petitions seeking her removal from office.

The petitioners cite certain infractions and abuse of office involving the Chief Justice, hence resulting in the establishment of a committee to probe her and her subsequent suspension. But Mrs. Torkornoo has dismissed the allegations as false and baseless. Hey “do not have any basis in law or truth”, she stated at a press briefing on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.She further described the allegations as “just an attempt to gather a lot of complaints together regardless of whether they are true or not, whether they are justified or not just to have an excuse for the conduct of this enquiry that breaks all the rules of fair hearing”.

Tackling the issue during Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” discussion program, Richard Ahiagbah said the treatment meted out to Chief Justice is a serious contravention of the constitution.

According to him, the Mahama administration is predicating the case on Article 146 as a “decoy” to execute their agenda of replacing Torkornoo.

“The reason for the Chief Justice’s press conference is that it is a serious breach of our constitution and an orchestrated attempt that we will undermine the Judiciary in every way possible to get their (NDC) own Chief Justice”, he remarked.
