Senyo Hosi, Convener of the One Ghana Movement, has sharply criticised suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo for addressing her ongoing impeachment publicly.
He described her press conference as “an act of indiscretion” and a move that undermines the constitutionally mandated judicial process.
During a panel discussion on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, Hosi questioned the rationale behind the Chief Justice’s decision to air her grievances in public instead of allowing the legal process to run its course. He maintained that matters of such constitutional weight should not be tried in the court of public opinion.
Referencing Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution, which stipulates that impeachment proceedings against a Chief Justice must be conducted in camera, Hosi stressed that the law is clear and unambiguous.
“You are the Chief Justice. You should understand the law much better than anybody… The provisions about this being in camera are very express,” he noted.
Joining the discussion, legal practitioner Victoria Bright also expressed her disapproval of Justice Torkornoo’s public remarks.
She stated that the suspended Chief Justice had failed to uphold constitutional protocol, emphasizing that the matter should be handled by the five-member committee tasked with ensuring an impartial and fair process.
