AdubianewsThe Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) has reached a significant milestone in its operations, with over 58,000 students across public and private institutions receiving loan disbursements for the 2024/2025 academic year.
Acting Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Saajida Shiraz, confirmed that 19,703 students from 135 institutions recently received their second-semester loans, marking the first time in four years the fund has released second-semester payments.
This announcement was made during the launch of the “No Fee, No Stress” initiative aimed at easing financial pressures on students and enhancing access to tertiary education.
Dr. Shiraz also revealed that earlier in the academic year, first-semester loans were successfully disbursed to 38,440 students across 145 public and private institutions. She emphasized that the fund has turned a new page, leaving behind a difficult past where loan approvals did not always translate into disbursements.
According to her, the SLTF has regained its operational momentum and is now better positioned to fulfill its core mandate of supporting Ghanaian students.
She expressed deep appreciation to the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) for its continued commitment to educational access, stating that the proactive support of the GET Fund Administrator played a key role in the latest round of disbursements. The infusion of funds into SLTF operations, she noted, has been instrumental in revitalizing the agency’s impact across the tertiary education landscape.
Established to promote equity and access in higher education, the SLTF provides loans to students in accredited tertiary institutions, enabling them to cover tuition fees and other academic-related expenses. Over the years, the fund has become a critical pillar in Ghana’s human capital development efforts, empowering thousands of students to pursue and complete their education without financial barriers.
Dr. Shiraz’s assurance signals renewed confidence in the SLTF’s operations, and with consistent funding and administrative efficiency, the agency is poised to continue supporting the next generation of Ghanaian professionals.
