Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has assured fans that Asante Kotoko will host their CAF Confederation Cup matches at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
The Kumasi-based facility was recently deemed unfit to host CAF and FIFA-sanctioned matches, prompting the Black Stars to move their home fixtures to the Accra Sports Stadium.
However, during a visit to Asante Kotoko’s training grounds ahead of the 2025 President’s Cup, Dr. Amoakohene announced that rehabilitation works will begin soon, with the government fully aware of the stadium’s current state.
“We toured some of the sporting facilities in the Ashanti Region with the Sports Minister. I am happy to report that we have received assurances that the Baba Yara Stadium will be rehabilitated,” he said.
“We are very hopeful that by the time CAF competitions begin, significant improvements will have been made.”
Dr. Amoakohene emphasized that both the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports are committed to restoring the stadium to international standards.

“The Baba Yara Stadium now has the full attention of the RCC and the Sports Ministry. We are committed to working together to ensure it is put in top shape to support our clubs on the continental stage,” he stressed.
Asante Kotoko secured qualification for the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Golden Kick FC in the FA Cup final.
