The Ghana-Russia Center for Commerce and Relations has expressed profound sorrow following the helicopter tragedy that took the lives of eight Ghanaians, including five high-ranking government officials, in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
In a heartfelt statement released Thursday, the Center’s CEO, Mr. John Aggrey, conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and called the incident “a devastating loss to the nation.” The helicopter, operated by the Ghana Armed Forces, was headed to Obuasi when it crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District.
Among the deceased were Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Hon. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed. Other notable figures included Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC); and Mr. Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate.
Also aboard the ill-fated aircraft were Squadron Leader Peter Anala, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo, the crew members who perished in the line of duty.
Mr. Aggrey described the fallen leaders as “dedicated public servants who tirelessly contributed to the nation’s development and progress.” He added that “Ghana has been robbed of patriots whose legacies will endure.”
Calling for national unity and resilience, he urged Ghanaians to honour the memories of the departed with strength and dignity during this difficult time.
