AdubianewsThe Akwatia by-election took a dramatic turn when Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin paid an unannounced visit to the NDC’s party office, sparking a heated exchange between NDC members and the Minority Leader’s entourage. Chief Sofo Azorka, the National Vice Chairman of the NDC, described the visit as “highly disrespectful” and “provocative.”
In response, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, condemned the violence and laid the blame squarely on the NDC executive.
Aboagye emphasized that the country’s democracy has no room for violence and urged political leaders to set the right example. He specifically criticized Chief Azorka, stating that he should be ashamed of his behavior and that his actions contributed to the unrest.
The incident highlights the tensions and conflicts that can arise during electoral processes, particularly when different political parties and interests are involved.
The situation escalated into a confrontation, with Aboagye noting that people seem to think the police are only there to separate fighters, and as a result, they are no longer afraid of them.
He saw someone throwing a punch over the head of a policeman to hit another person, emphasizing that such individuals should be held accountable to deter others from engaging in similar behavior.
Aboagye stressed that violence has no place in Ghana’s democracy and that political leaders must promote a culture of non-violence. He urged Chief Azorka to reflect on his actions and realize that his behavior was unacceptable.
By condemning the violence and criticizing Chief Azorka’s conduct, Aboagye aims to promote a peaceful and respectful democratic process in Ghana.
