The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Ayensuano District in the Eastern Region, Hon. Joshua Yaw Lartey, has led a special night operation that resulted in the arrest of four illegal miners at Anum Apapamu. The operation was carried out to clamp down on illegal mining activities destroying lands and water bodies within the district.
The four suspects were caught engaging in galamsey activities deep in the bush under the cover of darkness. They were apprehended with tools and equipment believed to have been used in their operations. The swift move by the DCE and his team prevented the suspects from escaping.
Authorities revealed that the operation was based on intelligence gathered from residents in the community who had raised concerns about ongoing night mining activities. The DCE’s prompt response demonstrates the assembly’s determination to combat the menace and protect the district’s environment.
The Ayensuano District Assembly has pledged to continue working closely with security agencies and local communities to ensure that illegal mining operations are completely eradicated from the area.
