Member of Parliament for Asante Akim, Asante Boateng, has sparked controversy after describing former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as an outsider in the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking on Adom FM’s Badwam programme, the MP launched a sharp verbal attack, arguing that Dr. Bawumia does not deserve to lead the party since he was not originally part of the NPP’s core family.
According to Asante Boateng, leadership positions in the party should be reserved for members who have long served within the party’s ranks, not individuals brought in to serve for political convenience.
He likened the Vice President’s position to that of a servant who should not be elevated to the highest rank, insisting that Dr. Bawumia has already been honoured enough by being made Vice President.
Asante Boateng, a staunch supporter of Kennedy Agyapong during the NPP’s presidential primaries, further accused Dr. Bawumia of causing internal division in the party, alleging that his ambitions led to Alan Kyerematen’s departure and the formation of the Butterfly Movement and UP Party.
