Asante Kotoko and Ashantigold are to represent Ghana in the next CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup editions respectively but whilst the Porcupine Warriors are ranked 50th by the Confederation of African Football , their Obuasi counterparts are not even considered.
The Ghana Football Association last week decided to cancel the 2019/20 football season and awarded Africa tickets to the Ashanti region duo but how are they ranked in Africa?.
The CAF 5-year ranking is used to rank clubs based on their performance in the competitions of CAF over the past 5 seasons and clubs get ranking points when they reach at least the group stages.
Kotoko reached the group stages of the 2018/19 CAF Confederation Cup when C.K Akonnor was in charge and are placed at position number 50 alongside seven other clubs but the Miners have not achieved any similar feat in the last 5 years the reason why they do not appear in the rankings which CAF uses to seed clubs.
The next Ghanaian clubs on the 77-club list are Aduana Stars (71) and Medeama (72).
