Five registrants in the Central Region have been injured after bodyguards of the New Patriotic Party Parliamentary Candidate for Ajumako Enyan Easiam constituency allegedly attacked registrants at Ajumako Bisease.
According to our sources, there were information that people largely foreigners were being bused by the biggest opposition political party, National Democratic Congress (NDC) to some polling stations to register.
The bodyguards upon hearing the news then decided to move to a registration centre to cause mayhem by ransacking the materials used by the EC officials for registration, afterwards pulled down canopies, and also decided to vandalise some cars packed in and around the center.
The riot led to the suspension of the registration process since Electoral Commission officials and the applicants at the centre ran for their lives as the situation got out of hands with no proper security presence at the time.
Few hours later, a joint military and police intervention made sure that there was calm and law and order prevailed for the registration exercise to continue in peace.
The five persons are alleged to have been injured by the bodyguards are still receiving treatment at the Ajumako Government Hospital.
Despite the unhealthy happenings on Thursday morning, the Ajumako Police Commander is yet to brief the media about the incident and processes undertaken so far.
