FrimpongDirector general of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Professor Peter Twumasi says his office won’t hesitate to accept suggestions for renaming a sporting venue after the late Brazilian legend Pele.
A national sporting facility might be named after one of the best players in football history, according to Prof. Twumasi, who has hinted that the NSA is open to all kinds of discussions.
“The call by Infantino for nations to name a stadium in recognition of the football king, Pelé, is something many nations always do to honour their hero. For me, it is a good motivation for young players who aspire to reach the pinnacle of football and also serves as a magnet to unite people around the world he told GNA
“There are procedures to be followed in the renaming of the stadium and as we did with the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, and we are willing to engage appropriate stakeholders to make this happen, especially given the vast number of unnamed new sporting facilities in the country,”
FA Boss Request
Football fans all over the world got perplexed by FIFA president Gianni Infantino’s recent strange comments after Pele’s demise.
Infantino made a puzzling request as Brazil paid its ultimate tribute to Pele, a legend in the sport and one of the best players ever.
Infantino traveled to Santos, Brazil, to pay his respects to the player who was 82 when he passed away from cancer, and who was largely regarded as the greatest player of all time.
Along with the leaders of the South American and Brazilian football confederations, he attended the wake and announced that the sport’s regulatory body would ask each member nation to dedicate a stadium to Pele.
We’re going to ask every country in the world to name one of their football stadiums with the name of Pele,” Infantino told journalists at the Vila Belmiro, the stadium where the player known as “The King” first exploded onto the world stage with his exploits for his longtime club, Santos FC.
