The New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary Candidate for the 2024 General elections in the troubled Ablekuma North constituency has firmly rejected the Electoral Commission’s call for a re-run in 19 polling stations within the constituency.
She is demanding accurate reasons for the re-run when the EC had sworn in Parliament that there were only 3 polling stations left to be collated.
Akua Afriyie argued that the process of collation almost ended before the announcement of a re-run.
She maintained that the collation had been completed in all but three polling stations, and the sudden shift by the EC raises serious concerns that must be duly addressed to bring finality to the chaos that has characterized the entire collation process.
According to her, the EC had earlier testified under oath in Parliament that only three polling stations were left to be declared, making the call for a rerun unjustifiable, hence the need to strongly oppose it.
The comment of Akua Afriyie, the NPP Parliamentary candidate, follows the EC’s announcement of a rerun after disputes over the authenticity of election results from the December 7, 2024, General Election.
However, Akua Afriyie in an interview on Peace FM’s Kokoro, questioned the EC’s inconsistency and accused the NDC of manipulating the situation to Favour their candidate.
“I am not happy with it. We are not going to accept this decision. My reason is very simple. We have gone through all the collation, and we are at three polling stations for us to complete the collation and declaration, and so what changed? We had EC coming to parliament, swearing under oath that we have only three polling stations left, and consistently, that is what it has been so far.
“So, if NDC is bent on taking the seat, and going to the extent of requesting a re-run, and EC, that has always insisted that also that we are left with only three polling stations, comes back to say that ‘we have agreed with NDC’s decision,’ then where are we? We are not agreeing to this,” she said.
