Abraham Kotei Neequaye has officially announced his resignation as President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), attributing the decision to personal reasons and long-term career goals. The resignation will take effect on Friday, June 27, 2025, following a press conference at the GBA Secretariat at 10:00 a.m.

The news was confirmed through a press release shared by GBA’s Communications Director, Mohammed Amin Lamptey, via WhatsApp on Wednesday night.

In the statement, Mr. Neequaye described his decision as a “difficult yet necessary step “for me and some executive board members with integrity and dignity at this crucial time.” He emphasized that the role had been a voluntary service and came without salary or allowance.

“I deeply regret to inform fellow Ghanaians that I am resigning as the president of Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) due to personal reasons,” the statement read.

Reflecting on his term, Mr. Neequaye expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve and highlighted the lessons he has learned throughout his tenure. “I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities that I have been given as the GBA president. I actually value the insights that I have learned, and I expect them to help me in my future endeavours.”

He also acknowledged the challenges he and some board members faced, particularly moments of harsh public scrutiny. “Let me seize the opportunity to thank the media landscape for the support you offered me and my board members, especially those of us who suffered character assassination during these difficult times,” he noted.

The outgoing president urged media personnel to attend Friday’s press conference for firsthand information on his departure.
