AdubianewsFormer Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has shared his views on aviation safety and Ghana’s broader national development, stressing the need for unity in politics.
Speaking on Nhyira FM’s Kuro Yi Mu Nsem, the Bosomtwe MP recalled his personal experiences aboard Ghana Air Force helicopters and expressed disbelief over the recent military aviation tragedy.
“I have boarded the Air Force helicopter several times, and I never felt it could even crash because of the experienced and disciplined pilots and its smooth ride. I am still in a state of shock,” he said.
Dr. Adutwum condemned what he described as “slash and burn politics,” warning that excessive partisanship puts the lives of Ghanaians at risk. He cited the resistance by opposition MPs to President Akufo-Addo’s proposal to procure aircraft for the military, blaming the NDC for stalling efforts to retool the Air Force.
“When Nana Addo decided to buy aircraft for the military, the then opposition MPs rose against it and played politics around it. The ‘slash and burn politics’ can put the lives of all Ghanaians at risk and eventually make politicians look stupid,” he cautioned.
The Bosomtwe lawmaker urged politicians to rise above partisan interests and support initiatives that benefit the nation.
“We cannot continue to demonize all the contributions of our political opponents for political gains. I believe if what a particular government is doing will help the nation, we must all support it and avoid unnecessary criticisms,” he stated.
Despite his concerns, Dr. Adutwum also highlighted the sense of camaraderie that often exists behind the scenes in Parliament, emphasizing that Ghana’s progress depends on cooperation across the political divide.
