Diella TekuPresident Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has publicly endorsed Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the best candidate to succeed him as Ghana’s president. Speaking to members of Organised Labour on Tuesday, December 3, President Akufo-Addo expressed his confidence in Bawumia’s readiness to lead the nation, citing his extensive experience and track record.
Highlighting Dr. Bawumia’s journey, the president noted his critical role over the past seven years as Vice President, coupled with his tenure as a Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana. He credited Bawumia’s background in governance and economics as key attributes that have prepared him to tackle the challenges of leadership.
“I have no doubt in my mind that my vice president, who was with me for eight years in opposition and eight years in government, is well prepared today to be president,” President Akufo-Addo said.
The president also urged Ghanaians to support Dr. Bawumia at the polls, presenting him as the candidate for continuity and development. “A vote for Dr. Bawumia is a vote for progress. My appeal to you is that on Saturday, when you go to cast your ballot, look closely at the elephant,” he added, referencing the symbol of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
As the election date draws near, President Akufo-Addo’s endorsement reinforces the NPP’s campaign narrative, positioning Dr. Bawumia as a candidate with both the expertise and vision to sustain the country’s development agenda.
