Ghanaian gospel musician Evangelist Akwasi Nyarko has made an emotional public appeal to former President John Dramani Mahama, claiming he is facing severe hardship after supporting the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during past campaigns.
In a heart-wrenching video making rounds on social media, the gospel singer revealed that he is starving, has no source of income, and has not eaten in three days.
“President Mahama, it seems you’ve forgotten about me. I composed a campaign song for you. I’m hungry, I haven’t eaten in three days because I have no money,” he said.
Nyarko went on to reveal that his child has dropped out of school due to his inability to pay tuition fees, attributing his current struggles to the political choices he made.
“My child has dropped out of school because I can’t afford the fees. I’m not getting shows because I sang and campaigned for the NDC in the Ashanti Region,” he lamented.
The evangelist, once a prominent voice in the gospel industry, warned that his situation could lead to tragedy if ignored, drawing comparisons to late musicians.
“Please come to my aid; don’t let me die like Daddy Lumba and Dada KD,” he added, referencing popular highlife musicians who have passed on.
Evangelist Akwasi Nyarko’s emotional plea has sparked a wave of online discussions, with some calling for immediate assistance from the NDC leadership, while others have questioned the long-term support structures in place for artists who risk their careers for political causes.
As of now, there has been no official response from John Mahama or the NDC communication team regarding Nyarko’s appeal.
