Fascinating places you’ll probably never visit in your lifetime:

  • The Coca-Cola Vault in Atlanta, USA
  • The Lascaux Caves, France – closed to the public since 1963.
  • The Svalbard World Seed Vault – an underground vault on the Norwegian island of Spitsbergen designed to store seeds from all the world’s food crops in a secure location and thus preserve genetic diversity.
  • Fort Knox, USA – a military camp used to store American gold.
  • Chernobyl exclusion zone, Ukraine
  • Diego Garcia, Indian Ocean – a beautiful island with a large U.S. naval and military base, it is off limits to the public.
  • Mariana Trench, Pacific Ocean – deepest ocean trench known to date.
  • Pravcicka Brana, Czech Republic – one would be tempted to walk on this arch but it is closed to the public due to the risk of collapse.
  • Bhangarh Fort, Rajasthan, India – Tourists can visit Bhangarh, but no one lingers there because it is forbidden to spend time there after dark due to a supposed curse on the place.
  • Spy Museum, China – Foreign visitors are not welcome here.
  • The Vatican Secret Archives, Vatican City – This may be the largest collection of historical artifacts in the world, but only a handful of people have been allowed to enter.
  • North Sentinel Island, India – The Sentinels, who have lived on the island for more than 60,000 years, are highly averse to outside influences and remain totally disconnected from the modern world. To respect this isolation, Indian authorities prohibit visits to the island (and residents often kill visitors who are a little too curious).
