Asante Mampong elders protest Yakubu Issifu’s appointment as MCE

Tension is brewing in Asante Mampong following the appointment of Yakubu Issifu, a Northerner, as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE). Elders of the community have strongly opposed the decision and have called on President John Mahama to revoke the appointment without delay.

They argue that the process leading to Issifu’s selection disregarded the sentiments of the local community. According to the elders, the move lacks transparency and fails to respect the identity and values of Asante Mampong residents.

“Some members of the NDC have even gone as far as publicly stating they would not accept an Asante as MCE in this constituency,” the elders claimed, suggesting the existence of deep-rooted political and ethnic bias influencing the appointment.

The call for reversal reflects growing dissatisfaction among traditional leaders and stakeholders in the municipality, who believe that local governance should reflect the cultural fabric and consensus of the people it serves.

Elders are urging the President to consult more broadly and respect the will of the local populace in making appointments that directly affect their communities.
