Dr Dominic Ayine to speak on uniBank case and ORAL initiative

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, is set to take the spotlight at the upcoming Government Accountability Series on Monday, July 28, 2025. He will provide in-depth explanations regarding the controversial discontinuation of the uniBank case and outline progress on the government’s anti-corruption drive, Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL).

In a Facebook update on July 23, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister for Government Communications, announced the Attorney-General’s scheduled appearance. “Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, will appear at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, 28th July 2025, to answer all questions on the uniBank matter, provide an update on ORAL and unfurl details of a case he calls ‘RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE,’” he stated.

This announcement follows growing public debate surrounding the Attorney-General’s decision to file a nolle prosequi on July 22, effectively ending the high-profile criminal trial of Dr Kwabena Duffuor, the founder of defunct uniBank, and seven others.

The case, The Republic v. Kwabena Duffuor & 7 Others (CR/0248/2020), was among the most significant prosecutions following Ghana’s 2018 banking sector reforms aimed at restoring financial stability.

The forum will also feature the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Kofi Armah Buah, who is expected to deliver an update today on the government’s fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

Dr Duffuor, who served as Finance Minister from 2009 to 2013 and Governor of the Bank of Ghana from 1997 to 2001, was charged in 2020 along with others for alleged offences, including theft and money laundering, relating to financial mismanagement at UniBank prior to its collapse during the sector cleanup.
