AdubianewsFormer Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has paid tribute to the late Asantehemaa Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III, describing her as a pillar of unity, grace, and candour. The Queen Mother of the Asante Kingdom passed away, leaving a deep void in the hearts of her people and the nation.
In a Facebook post on Monday, August 11, Dr. Bawumia expressed his grief and solidarity with His Majesty the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asanteman Council, and the Asante people.
“It is with a heavy heart that I join His Majesty… in mourning the passing of our dearest Queen Mother,” he wrote. He described her reign as one that embodied dignity, steadfastness, and service to the Asante Kingdom.
Reflecting on his personal encounters with the Queen Mother, Dr. Bawumia recounted her warmth and compassion. “Her sense of compassion and open arms received many, of whom I am proud to have been part,” he noted. He also acknowledged her wisdom and spiritual guidance, saying her prayers and counsel had been a constant source of strength in his life.
The former Vice President spoke of the irreplaceable loss her death represents, calling her “a mother, not just the queen mother.” He ended his message with the traditional Asante lament, “Ohemaa Konadu Yiadom, Due. Asanteman Damirifa Due.”
The Asantehemaa serves as a co-ruler with the Asantehene and holds significant spiritual authority in the Asante Kingdom. Her passing marks the end of an era, and tributes are pouring in from across Ghana, honouring her life and legacy.
