The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has paid courtesy visits to former Presidents Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and John Agyekum Kufuor following the conclusion of the party’s presidential primaries.
The engagements, which took place on Tuesday, form part of efforts to consolidate unity and strengthen internal cohesion within the NPP after Dr Bawumia’s decisive victory in the primaries.
Dr Bawumia first met former President Akufo-Addo at his office in Labone, Accra. Their discussions focused on lessons from previous electoral victories and the importance of maintaining party unity as preparations begin for the 2028 general elections. The meeting also highlighted the influential role of senior party figures in ensuring continuity and stability within the NPP.
During the interaction, Dr Bawumia expressed appreciation for Akufo-Addo’s support and counsel, acknowledging the encouragement he received following his nomination as the party’s flagbearer. He reiterated his commitment to leading a united and stronger NPP going forward.
Later the same day, Dr Bawumia visited former President John Agyekum Kufuor at his residence in Peduase. The discussions similarly centred on reconciliation, unity, and strategic readiness ahead of future electoral contests.
Both former presidents stressed the need for collective effort and harmony within the party, reflecting a shared vision of positioning the NPP for electoral success.
