AdubianewsDr. Bryan Acheampong, Member of Parliament for Abetifi and former Minister for Food and Agriculture, has taken a significant step toward a possible presidential run within the New Patriotic Party (NPP). On May 29, 2025, he officially announced the formation of an exploratory committee tasked with assessing the viability of his candidacy for the party’s flagbearership.
In his statement, Dr. Acheampong said the move was inspired by growing support from party members and thorough consultations with his family and close associates. He explained that the committee would conduct broad consultations with NPP stakeholders, grassroots members, and constituents across the country.
“This decision was not made lightly. It comes after deep reflection and a genuine desire to serve the party and the nation at a higher level,” he noted.
The committee is expected to conclude its nationwide consultations and submit a report within four weeks. Based on the findings, Dr. Acheampong will make a final decision on whether to contest in the NPP’s upcoming presidential primaries.
Dr. Acheampong’s team will focus on key policy themes that align with his public service record—particularly job creation, food security, youth development, infrastructure, national security, and transparent governance.
He also reflected on his decades-long commitment to the NPP, describing his political journey as “lifelong and deeply personal.” From working at the grassroots level to becoming a four-time MP and serving in high-level ministerial roles, he emphasized his readiness to offer “strong and visionary leadership” should the party and the people call on him.
In a climate of growing anticipation within the NPP ahead of the next general elections, Acheampong’s announcement signals a potentially game-changing addition to the race for the party’s presidential ticket.
