The Member of Parliament for Abetifi and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has pledged his full support for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia should he emerge victorious in the party’s presidential primary scheduled for January 31, 2026.

According to Dr. Acheampong, party unity will be crucial to the NPP’s chances in the 2028 general elections, stressing that he harbours no resentment over the outcome of the internal contest.

Speaking on Face to Face on Channel One TV on Tuesday, December 23, in an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu, the Abetifi MP said he has formally committed himself to supporting whoever wins the party’s primary.

He further disclosed that during a recent media engagement, one of the presidential aspirants declined to clearly state whether he would back Dr. Bawumia should he win the contest.

Beyond the primaries, Dr. Acheampong outlined plans to restore discipline within the NPP, noting that internal divisions and a growing culture of insults must be addressed.

“I assured delegates that I will restore discipline in our party. There should be discipline, and someone must drive it, and I intend to,” he said.

He added that his campaign strategy is inclusive and firmly rooted at the grassroots, with a strong focus on ensuring logistical support reaches all polling stations.

“I intend to run a campaign in which everybody is relevant and becomes part of it. I will ensure resources get to the polling stations,” Dr. Acheampong noted.

Touching on his broader vision for national development, the Abetifi MP stressed the need for bold and decisive leadership to transform Ghana’s economy.

“We need to transform our society. We need bold, decisive leadership—someone who understands business, job creation, revenue generation and infrastructure expansion. People must be more productive than we are today,” he said.
