Diella TekuAmerican rapper Cardi B recently took to her X handle to call out the sexist double standards successful women face in society. She highlighted that women, despite working harder and often outperforming men, are frequently dismissed as beneficiaries of their looks or accused of leveraging their bodies to succeed. Cardi pointed to the harsh criticism aimed at U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, suggesting that Harris is being unfairly targeted due to her gender.
Reflecting on her own experiences, Cardi shared that, much like Harris, she’s often been overlooked and had her accomplishments questioned or minimized. “Just like Kamala Harris, I have been the underdog and I have been underestimated!! My success is always discredited,” she wrote.
In her message, she emphasized the undue burden placed on women to excel multiple times over to prove themselves, only to face belittling excuses when they achieve their goals. “Women have to work ten times harder and perform ten times better, and still our success comes with excuses… it’s because she’s pretty or because she slept her way to the top,” she added, expressing frustration at the “disgusting attacks” directed at Harris. Cardi said that witnessing these attacks has fueled her commitment to stand up against this behavior.
Cardi’s post followed her appearance at a Kamala Harris rally in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she publicly endorsed the Vice President’s candidacy, signaling her active support for Harris and a pushback against gender-based discrimination in public life.
