The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Bosiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has paid a visit to the NPP headquarters shortly after his release by EOCO after a brief detention.
It would be vividly recalled that the outspoken politician was apprehended and detained by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO). The arrest was made on May 27, 2025, by EOCO following allegations of his involvement in an alleged $55 million fraud involving Alkonta Mining.
He was later reported to have been hospitalized after showing symptoms of an undisclosed illness. This led to a temporary halt of the interrogation by EOCO.
On Monday, June 2, 2025, Chairman Wontumi was reported to have been released by EOCO after successfully meeting their bail requirements, which sparked a lot of reactions from the NPP camp.
A day after his release, the politician paid a visit to the national headquarters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to express his undying gratitude to the party executives and supporters for their unwavering backing during his detention.
He was warmly welcomed by his jubilant supporters as he arrived at the premises. Despite rumors of him being unwell, Chairman Wontumi was seen exchanging pleasantries with the party’s executives, beaming with smiles.
In order to calm concerned Ghanaians and supporters, Wontumi raised one of his legs to prove to them he is as fit as a fiddle, even though he was spotted limping on his legs on the day of his release.
In his address, Wontumi expressed gratitude to the party and his supporters, assuring them that everything will fall into place in due time.
“I had to come and show how grateful I am. May God bless you. Everything will be fine,” he told the party executives and supporters.
