“Stick To Your Core Duties As A Trained Lawyer”-Ken Ofori-Atta’s Lawyer To OSP

The Chairman of the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Frank Davies, who happens to be the lawyer of the former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has reacted to the OSP’s redeclaration of his client as a fugitive of the law.

The former Minister of Finance has been redeclared wanted by the Office of the Special Prosecutor, chaired by Kissi Agyebeng. The former minister was declared a fugitive following his failure to appear for questioning regarding multiple high-profile corruption investigations.

The OSP has identified him as a suspect in five cases, including allegations related to the National Cathedral Project, the Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML) deal, and payments from the Ghana Revenue Authority’s tax refund account.

According to the OSP, Ken Ofori-Atta has exhausted the patience of his office by failing to appear for an in-person meeting, which he had to honor by the deadline, June 2, 2025.

The OSP also rejected Mr. Ofori-Atta’s request for a virtual interview, insisting instead on an in-person presence. The office will no longer tolerate any more delays, according to Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng,

In reaction to this, the lawyer of the Finance Minister, Frank Davies, dared the OSP to carry out his extradition process. Speaking in an interview on Joy FM, he stated that he had listened to the statement of the OSP and knew of his efforts to force his client back into the country.

“Well, he has redeclared him a wanted and fugitive from justice. I have listened to all that he said. He has triggered processes to force his return to the country. He has also caused a red notice alert on him.”

He added, “He has always been in the process of triggering extradition or commencing extradition proceedings to ensure a return of Ken Ofori-Atta into the jurisdiction. That is what he has opted to do, so he should carry it out.”

Mr. Frank Davie also urged the OSP to stick to his core duties as a legal practitioner and desist from making utterances in areas has has no knowledge of.

“But I will just say this to the Office of the Special Prosecutor, that he should stick to his core duties as the Special Prosecutor and as a trained lawyer. I don’t know when he became a medical practitioner to be giving interpretations and all that he said,” Frank Davies said.

“He is a legal practitioner, and he should stick to his core duties and stop getting himself into areas where he has very little knowledge,” he added.

In other news, President John Dramani Mahama announced the initiative during the Global Mining Summit in Accra on June 2, 2025, stating that Ghana can no longer allow heavy-duty equipment to slip through the cracks and enable environmental destruction.
