Television presenter and a broadcast journalist, Nana Aba Anamoah, has stated that bloggers should not use their power to gossip but, rather use it for something profitable.

Speaking to Kwasi Sintim Misah (KSM) in an interview on a popular show, “The KSM Show” in Accra, the award winning Ghanaian television newscaster, who doubles as a show host, Nana urged Ghanaian bloggers to use the power they have in setting good agenda.

Nana Aba Anamoah reiterated that bloggers should use their platforms to help in ensuring positive change in the society instead of posting pictures of celebrities and denigrating them without any basis.

The broadcast journalist lamented that the problem with most Ghanaian online bloggers has to do with the fact that, they are unaware of the power of the media through rapid advancement in technology.

She added that the power of bloggers to publish relevant materials should be used as a tool to contribute to positive societal change.

“I think some bloggers in the country have no idea about how powerful they are. Most of these bloggers have been able to gather great number of followers due to the connectivity nature of the internet and it is possible to reach them with compelling and life changing contents, but they only focus on reposting pictures of celebrities, publishing defamatory stories about people”, Nana Aba indicated.

She pointed out that the work of some bloggers is total laziness, as they only produce irrelevant materials that only calls for unnecessary attention and public redicule on some innocent celebrities.

“Ghanaian online personalities (bloggers) that, there are always publishing contents should focus on ways of achieving massive development in the country. The energy bloggers use in gossiping should be used in changing the negative narrative of this country”, the the presenter intimated.

Nana Aba Anamoah told KSM that bloggers can do so much with the powerful tool they posses, and that, it shouldn’t always be about the gossips but rather, it should be about contents that will transform the lives of people.

On the notion of the rapid spread of negative stories, Nana Aba Anamoah further explained that the mindset most Ghanaians to hold the perception of ‘negetive stories sells than positive stories’ must change.

She revealed that there are lots of people on the internet who are ready to read positive stories rather than negative stories.

She continued that there are lots of people who will ignore negative stories and go for positive stories only.

In citing an example at the KSM show, Nana Aba Anamoah said that she posted short videos of her campaign against tramadol abuse on the internet and had large number of of viewers viewing the campaign.

New media(social media) has become extremely power in this century due to the rapid advancement in technology. Many people are using this opportunity for the betterment of their societies,l.

However, it seems most Ghanaian bloggers are only interested in getting viewers instead of positive change.
