AdubianewsGovernance expert and public financial management specialist, Dr Eric Oduro Osae, has cautioned Ghanaians to firmly reject vote-buying in all its forms.
Speaking during panel discussions on JoyNews on Tuesday, September 2, Dr Oduro Osae warned that exchanging one’s vote for money is equivalent to sacrificing the future while undermining the principles of democracy.
“Democracy is about getting the person to represent you, so you can hold the person accountable,” he explained.
He added a stern reminder to voters: “So those who are collecting money, remember: you are selling your future. The person may never get back to you.”
According to Dr Oduro Osae, vote-buying not only corrupts the integrity of elections but also gives politicians the freedom to neglect their constituents once they assume office. He stressed that true democratic participation lies in electing leaders who can be held accountable, not in short-term financial gain.
