EPL: Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp extends contract until 2024

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has agreed a new two-year contract extension which will keep him at Anfield until 2024, ending any doubts over his long-term future at the club.

The German coach has turned Liverpool into Champions League winners and Premier League title contenders since taking over in 2015, with the side currently eight points clear at the top of the table.

His old deal was due to expire in 2022, which would have brought up seven years at the club exactly how long he stayed at Mainz and Dortmund,  prompting fears he might leave then.

But Klopp has ended any speculation by penning a fresh deal that will keep him at Liverpool for nine years if he sees out the full duration of the deal, and he says he feels ‘at home’ on Merseyside.

‘We decided to continue what has worked so far not too bad. We have agreed a new contract until 2024. That’s good news for some, not so good news for others sorry you can switch the channel off now,’ he told the club’s website.

‘For all the others here are a few of the reasons. We love it here first and foremost, it’s a wonderful club. We really feel at home. We understand most of the people and it’s a good moment to continue this, the club was interested as well so we did it.

‘It was not a difficult negotiation I think, you will have to ask Mike Gordon about that. I felt really good at the time. We could keep it quiet and secret which is exceptional nowadays so this is the first time I say it and I thought you are the right people to see it. See you from now on even more.’

Liverpool will welcome struggling Watford to Anfield on Saturday afternoon. It will be an early kick off.
